To further revive cross-border air transport, Hong Kong and Singapore have agreed to open an air travel bubble on May 26. Travelers between the two destinations will not be subjected to quarantine as long as they meet the requirements for flying inside the bubble.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the air route between Hong Kong and Singapore was one of the busiest in the Asia-Pacific region, as the two cities have close trade, travel, banking, tourism, and people-to-people links. Passengers leaving from Hong Kong will be expected to be vaccinated at least two weeks in advance. Tourists in both directions must confirm negative for the virus three days before departure and again when they arrive. They must also fly on designated flights that only accommodate other travellers in the travel bubble.
For the first two weeks, there will be only one flight a day in each direction, carrying a maximum of 200 passengers. Prior to departure, the passenger’s travel history will also be considered. Individuals must have no previous travel history to any location other than Singapore or Hong Kong in the 14 days preceding departure.
Passengers from both countries are also expected to download the contact-tracing apps for the other destinations prior to departure—TraceTogether Singapore’s and Hong Kong’s LeaveHomeSafe smartphone applications.
