Review: Keeping Your House Safe & Secure With SimpliSafe

As I’m sure it is for most homeowners, it is of high importance to us to keep our family and home safe, but it can be a pain committing to a multi-year service contract that requires me to pay an expensive monthly monitoring price.

SimpliSafe is a do-it-yourself smart home security system that protects your house from intruders and natural disasters such as fires and floods, whilst being a well-integrated system that accomplishes what it sets out to do: safeguard your house simply and flexibly, allowing you to monitor everything remotely with (or without) a reasonable monthly subscription.

SimpliSafe creates sensors and monitors for almost any purpose, and they all connect with a single central base station and keypad. When an alarm is raised, whether for an intruder, a fire, or a leaking pipe, the siren in the main base station sounds. Easy peasy.

Here’s everything we love about SimpliSafe’s products and the items you need to keep your home secure and safe.

The Base Station

SimpliSafe’s all-in-one systems feature a sleek and unobtrusive design that is entirely wireless and extremely simple to install and the Base Station is your system’s central processing unit. When one of the sensors or cameras senses danger, it sends a signal to the Base Station, which sounds the alarm and promptly warns you. The 24-hour backup battery protects you if it is disconnected or the power in the house goes out and if there is an emergency, a monitoring plan will notify SimpliSafe, who will dispatch the police.

The Key Fob

If your car can lock and unlock at the push of a button, why can’t your security system?  With the SimpliSafe Key Fob, you can easily arm and disarm your entire house from up to nine metres away with a single push.

The Key Fob also has a readily accessible panic button and when combined with expert monitoring, the SimpliSafe monitoring centre will be notified immediately if an emergency occurs and the panic button is pushed.

The Outdoor Camera

The outdoor camera is an absolute must-have and offers incredible 1080p HD video and a 140° ultra-wide field of view. Also, with its digital zoom and full-colour vision at night, nothing slips by undetected. The battery power also lasts up to 3-6 months before it needs to be recharged.

This camera has virtually no blindspots thanks to its wide field of vision and when it’s dark, a motion-activated spotlight will turn on anytime someone walks into its range – so there is no slipping past your security under the cover of darkness. You can even zoom in 8x from 15 feet away to observe vital details like faces and registration plates.

If someone is prowling outside your house, use the camera’s two-way audio to warn them it’s time to leave. When your burglary sensors activate, your camera’s built-in siren activates as well, alerting neighbours and sending potential intruders fleeing.

Other benefits of the outdoor camera include being alerted about important things rather than being flooded with irrelevant alerts. The outdoor camera from SimpliSafe utilizes neural network processing to differentiate between humans and vehicles, animals, and other disturbances.

Additionally, you may build unique motion detection zones on your property so that your camera only monitors where it is needed. Last but not least the security camera is designed for all weather extremes. It works in snow and in rain, from -20ºC to 50ºC — complete with IP65 dust and water resistance.

The Motion Sensors

Alarms that cry wolf? No, thank you. SimpliSafe’s  Motion Sensor is precisely built to recognise the distinct characteristic of individuals and not pets. It is also designed for high-traffic areas, such as a hallway where an intruder could pass. When motion is detected, the alarm is triggered. The SimpliSafe Motion Sensor has been designed particularly to detect the distinctive heat signature of humans within nine metres – ideal if you have pets in your house. You may place it on a shelf or mount it to a wall; placing it in a room’s corner will give optimum coverage.

Within nine metres, SimpliSafe Motion Sensors detect any movement and it can see straight ahead 90 degrees to the left and right, and 45 degrees below.

The Keypad

Designed to be wireless. With a single click, you can arm and disarm your security system. Even if an intruder destroys the Keypad, the system still sends a signal to the SimpliSafe monitoring centre, allowing them to contact the police more quickly. For added convenience, SimpliSafe recommends keeping an additional Keypad in your bedroom or at another main doorway.

Overall SimpliSafe has thought of everything when it comes to a security system setup – all of the batteries, wall fastenings, and so on are included in the boxes ready to be setup in a matter of minutes. You’ll be up and running quickly, with no need to fiddle with applications or Wi-Fi connections and everything is easy install, with all solutions having the ability to be tailored to your specific needs, and with a cost that is significantly lower than the competition, allowing homeowners to self-install and self-monitor, SimpliSafe is an all-round winner.
