The Most Romantic Proposal Spots In The UK

Congratulations! We’re assuming you’ve found your person, that someone special you plan on spending the rest of your days with? Now you’re looking for that perfect spot to get down on one knee and we are here to help!

With so many phenomenal locations to choose from it can be extremely difficult to find the dream location to pop the question – after all, it’s a moment that stays with you and your loved one forever.

From crystal clear beaches in Scotland and medieval villages in England to mountaintops with spectacular lake views, here are the top proposal spots in the UK, that look like they’re straight out of a fairytale.

Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh

What could be more romantic than proposing to the one you love at the top of an extinct volcano? Arthur’s Seat is the highest point of this archaic volcano and also said to be the location of the legendary Camelot, the home of King Arthur and his noble knights.

Situated in the South-East of Edinburgh at the bottom of the Royal Mile, Arthur’s Seat offers unrivaled 360-degree panoramic views of the city – if you’re looking for a proposal with a scenic backdrop, then look no further than Arthur’s Seat.

Jacobite Train, Fort William

Who would have thought that getting engaged on a train could be exciting? Of course, there’s the ever-famous Venice-Simplon Orient Express, which runs through Europe. However,  if you’re looking for something similar based in the UK, then the Jacobite Steam Train might be the ideal engagement setting for you and your other half.

The train travels through a section of the West Highland Line and now includes the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Hogwart’s Express in the Harry Potter movies. This has to be one of the most charming spots for any proposal, especially if you’re a big fan of the JK Rowlings novels.

Isle of Barra Beach Airport

Beach proposals have become more popular than ever with loved-up couples travelling afar to exotic destinations such as the Maldives or Bora Bora for their crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches. However, if you’re not looking to spend thousands on a beach proposal then the Isle of Barra in Scotland is an excellent option.

With direct flights running from Glasgow Airport, Barra is far easier and quicker to reach than the likes of the Indian Ocean. Located on the most southerly of the inhabited islands in the Outer Hebrides, Barra is the only island where the airport is located on the beach, and the tiny planes land and take off on the sandy beach.

How’s that for a romantic engagement location? Popping that important question to the one you love after getting off the plane, with turquoise waves surrounding you. Think Maldives styles, but in Scotland!

Castle Combe

Having been used as a filming location for plenty of Hollywood blockbusters such as Stardust and War Horse, Castle Combe has been named ‘the prettiest village in England’ year after year and makes for a truly enchanting proposal location. Steeped in history, this medieval village is made up of honey-coloured stone houses, which perfectly stand out from their surroundings.

Celebrate your engagement with a glass of bubbly at the five-star Manor House Hotel, a luxurious country house hotel that houses its very own 12th-century pub, or take a stroll through the charming village streets – you’ll feel like you’re living in your own real-life fairytale.

Surprise View, Derwentwater

There are many locations to choose from in the Lake District that provides a picture-perfect view for that momentous question. The Surprise View near Ashness Bridge is nestled in the picturesque Borrowdale Valley, a hotspot that rightfully lives up to its name. With views of the Lake Districts’ most magical lake, Derwentwater, the Surprise View offers an intimate surrounding and landscape that is bound to be remembered forever.

Spend the rest of the day at a couple’s spa day at the elegant Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa, as you soak in and relive the most romantic day of your lives.
