Location

You might not think much of the hotel’s position just off the A9 in Pitlochry, a little town in Perth and Kinross around 90 minutes from Edinburgh by vehicle, but once you’re inside, you’ll be treated to spectacular views across Loch Faskally on the River Tummel. The hotel’s prime location provides easy access to the Cairngorms National Park, the southernmost part of which is only a 10-minute drive from the hotel.

Style & Character

The hotel’s common areas are stunning and make for the perfect place to relax and have a drink to take in the day. There are cosy orange leather booths and a white Yamaha grand piano at the Fonab Brasserie, where breakfast is served. A spacious yet inviting area, complete with a Gin Palace, can also be found on the sixth floor. All guestrooms have gigantic windows that stretch from floor to ceiling, allowing guests to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding lake.

Fonab Castle’s 42 rooms are all elegantly furnished. Each of the rooms has its own distinct style and is decorated with antiques and luxurious textiles, some rooms also feature their own fireplaces. All have plush Vispring beds with fresh white linen and plenty of fluffy pillows to provide a comfortable night’s sleep. There are four separate buildings on the grounds where the bedrooms are located. You can choose to stay in the historic main castle or in the newer, more modern wing of Fonab Castle, both of which provide stunning views of the surrounding loch. The hotel’s lodge rooms are located in a separate structure called the Lodge, while the Penthouse, located on the fourth level of the Lodge, has spectacular views of the Perthshire Highlands.

Every room in the castle is uniquely designed, with each having a feature walls clad in Cole & Smiths wallpaper, thick tartan curtains, and a variety of chairs in colours evocative of those found in the Scottish Highlands. In the bathrooms, guests will find a spacious shower and excellent amenities from Noble Isle.

Dining & Drinks

A major draw of this place is unquestionably its food. Fonab Castle boasts a variety of atmospheres for each occasion, from a relaxing drink in the Lounge Bar to fine-dining in the 3 AA Rosette-winning Sandemans. The highly praised restaurant specialises in modernised classics and its seven-course tasting menu features exquisite dishes that have been masterfully prepared. The restaurant’s dark wood panelling creates a romantic atmosphere perfect for a special candlelit dinner.

Located in the grounds and surrounded by nature, the Pods at Fonab provide breathtaking views of Loch Faskally and the Fonab Castle Estate, making them a truly special addition to the Fonab experience. A personal host will tend to your every need in a luxury Pod with climate control, lighting, music, and a convenient call button.

The brasserie is also where guests enjoy an excellent breakfast each morning, with both continental and prepared options presented on a tiered cake stand. Elsewhere, relaxed loch-side cuisine is served at the Brasserie, making it an ideal place to while away the hours or enjoy a quick lunch.
