Hotel Villa Real: Extraordinary Artwork, Luxury Rooms & Five Star Service In Madrid

The luxurious Hotel Villa Real, which is a part of Derby Hotels Collection, with an extraordinary array of artwork and historical artefacts on display throughout the common areas for the enjoyment of all guests, is a must stay in Madrid.

Located in the midst of Madrid’s political and commercial district, the Hotel Villa Real is housed in a magnificent building from the 19th century that faces the Congress of Deputies. Both the famed Puerta del Sol area and the El Prado Museum, as well as the trendy boutiques and stores of Gran Via, can be reached in about 10 minutes by foot.

Location

Location-wise, the hotel is on the Plaza de las Cortes, adjacent to the Spanish Parliament building. The Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Reina Sofa, CaixaForum, and Naval museums are all located on the Paseo del Prado road, which is enclosed by the square’s triangle shape and tapers down to the plaza. Along the way from the hotel to Plaza Santa Ana, you’ll find plenty of shops and tapas bars and within five minutes by taxi or fifteen minutes on foot, you can reach the Retiro park, the Plaza de Cibeles (where the airport bus stops), and Atocha station.

Style & Character

The Derby Hotel Collection, of which the Villa Real is a part of, is well-known for its focus on ancient and contemporary works of art. The owner’s incredible treasures are on display all over the property and the hotel was designed in the late 20th century by famous Spanish architect Fernando Chueca Goitia, who also oversaw the completion of Madrid’s Almudena Cathedral.

The property has a charming vintage vibe, with antiquities such as Syrian mosaics and Greek vases beautifully combined with Art Decó elements and Corbusier-style furniture throughout the hotel, making it well worth visiting even if you are not a guest.

Rooms & Suites

There are 115 guest rooms and suites available. Some rooms have terraces and most have at least a small balcony, whilst room 213 is a superb room with a view of the square. Cherry wood furniture and dark wooden floors can be found throughout all of the guest rooms and give a warm, inviting vibe.

The bathrooms, clad in marble, feature a shower above a bathtub and double sinks stocked with a variety of luxurious White Company toiletries.

Food & Drink

A bright and airy room with a small patio is where guests can enjoy the complimentary breakfast buffet. Coffee and orange juice are served promptly, and requests for hot food are taken with the same efficiency.  Pancakes, blinis with smoked salmon, sliced avocado, and high-quality yoghurts are just some of the selections.

East 47, located in the hotel, has a café on the first floor with outdoor seating and a restaurant on the upper floor, both of which are popular with those who aren’t staying at the hotel.
