Outrigger Khao Lak Beach: A Retreat Designed in Harmony with Nature

Premier beach resort brand, Outrigger Resorts has revealed its latest innovative design features for its newly branded Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort, located on the pristine white sands of Bang Sak beach in southern Thailand and scheduled to welcome its first guests on 15 December 2021.

Ideal for both couples seeking romance and families seeking adventure – the beachfront property offers 158 rooms, suites and villas. Couples can luxuriate at the resort villas with a private plunge pool – perfect for honeymooners and shortly after opening, families travelling with children will also be able to enjoy a newly-built Coral Kids’ Club – which will include a fun playground and games room.

The resort redesign was conceived by Bangkok-based Santhaya & Associates, an award-winning architectural firm and partner with Outrigger since 2013 for projects in Thailand, Fiji and Mauritius.

Designs for Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort were inspired by the local environment. Sophie Bughin, a partner at Santhaya & Associates, said: “As designers on this project, our aim is that guests feel a seamless connection between sea, sand and the green tropical landscape. We are combining local culture, a sense of discovery and features such as textured prints and outrigger canoe motifs. Our objective is to create a feeling of serenity, infinite horizons and one-ness with nature.”

At Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort, a large landscaped garden is featured in the middle of the resort. The garden leads down to the beachside pool, then rows of casuarina trees and more than six kilometres of uninterrupted fine sand on Bang Sak beach.

New culinary elements also grace the property, including the new beachfront Edgewater Bar & Grill, which features pool lounge chairs, sofas, daybeds, tropical swing chairs, mood lighting and music. A relaxed atmosphere and a menu with favourite western and Asian dishes have been designed to delight in-house guests as well as other vacationers coming in from along the beach. The large open kitchen will showcase the chefs at work.

“We aim to create an enticing ‘chill-out’ atmosphere with sensational food and drinks served all day,” said Joerg Hontheim, Outrigger’s Area Director for Food and Beverage in Thailand.

In addition to Outrigger Khao Lak Beach Resort, Outrigger will also open the Outrigger Surin Beach Resort in Phuket on 15 December and Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort is scheduled to open by Easter 2022.

All guest rooms in the three new Outrigger Thailand properties will include, to varying degrees, wall-stenciled palm fronds, vintage black and white artworks, colourful murals, bamboo pendant lamps and rope details inspired by traditional outrigger canoes.

“The intention is that Outrigger Resorts in Thailand, while being quite different, will also share a common design DNA and clearly be seen as sister properties,” said Faun Israsena Na Ayudhya, Managing Director of Santhaya & Associates.
