If you haven’t paid a visit to the seriously cute Champagne and seafood bar from the team behind Bedales of Borough and BOB’s Lobster, you’ll want to get it on your London foodie list asap, as The Little Lobster Bar is now open in the heart of Borough Market at Market Hall, Bedale Street.
After the huge success and a flurry of rave reviews when BOB’s Lobster first opened back in summer 2018 in a converted railway arch, in a sleepy part of Bermondsey, founders Rob Dann and Jamie Watts have been carefully planning their next move.
Offering luxe, fun seafood from Ruby, their original 1957 Vintage VW split screen converted Campervan, imported from Indiana and lovingly restored and refitted in Darlington, it has to be the smallest restaurant kitchen in London.
As with BOB’s Lobster, the menu at The Little Lobster Bar has been devised by Rob and created by Head Chef Irene Barriga-Rodriquez. The predominantly seafood offering focuses on a range of unfussy dishes and snacks that feature the very best quality ingredients. Native lobster from the south coast and the Shetlands, create the ultimate seafood extravagance with a twist.
Signature menu dishes include; the much-loved BOB’s Lobster & Crayfish Roll, lobster claw, tail and knuckle & crayfish in a toasted brioche bun, rapeseed mayo & house celery salt, Shrimp Roll, custom brioche filled with fried shrimp, hispi slaw, sliced pickles, BOB’s old bay mayo spiked with house made bloody Mary hot sauce. Crab Tacos, warmed corn tortillas filled with hispi slaw, guacamole, crab, cashew butter, fresh herbs, lemon and Valentina hot sauce are not to be missed as are Crab Croquettes with basil mayo.
There is an utterly delectable All-Beef Chicago Style Hot Dog, fully loaded with crispy onions, pickles, celery salt, ketchup and French’s mustard and of course Lobster Mac ‘N’ Cheese, 3 cheese macaroni with lobster bisque bechamel, lobster knuckle and tail meat topped with crispy shallots & fried oregano. Shrimp Cocktail and Lobster Arancini are a must and the Hearts of Palm tacos featuring palm hearts, hispi slaw, guacamole, cashew butter, fresh herbs, lemon & Valentina hot sauce is the perfect plant-based alternative. Dishes range from a very reasonable £5.5 up to £19 for that exquisite Lobster & Crayfish Roll.
And to drink, it’s Champagne Laurent-Perrier, La Curvee Brut NV and of course Curvée Rosé both by the glass and bottle, Prosecco, Pimms, Aperol Spritz, Negronis and Frozen Margaritas as well as a good range of beers and Van-made southern style lemonade. Every Tuesday lunchtime you get a half price frozen Margarita with any order of tacos.
The Little Lobster Bar is perfect for a seafood treat to takeaway and enjoy whilst perusing the market or relaxing by the river. For dine-in, it’s first come, first served if you want to sit back on a communal picnic table and enjoy a shellfish feast whilst watching the world go by.
The Little Lobster Bar is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 5pm and until 6pm on Fridays. In the evenings the 60-cover space can be hired out for events.
