The Loveable Rogue Restaurant: Seasonal Home Cooking & Quality Ingredients In Glasgow’s West End

We were recently invited to try one of Glasgow’s most recommended gastropubs in the city, The Loveable Rogue, on the Great Western Road, and loveable is exactly what this restaurant is. Homestyle classics with an elevated twist are served up in a relaxed and Scottish setting, such as Scotch egg with Stornoway black pudding, Ox Cheek or Fish Pie. The restaurant’s classic Sunday afternoon roasts are also much-loved in this family-friendly neighbourhood hangout, in the form of Speyside beef, brisket mac ‘n’ cheese, beef fat garlic roasties, honey root vegetables, Yorkies, vegetable ecrasse, red wine gravy and a vegetarian option available as well.

The gastropub restaurant also has some of the best seafood dishes to be found in the city, including Scrabster monkfish cheek scampi, Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Hand-dived scallops, and a mouthwatering Seabream, butterbean spiced Nduja, fennel marmalade option.

The Loveable Rogue delivers excellent, uncomplicated cuisine that is elevated by hearty servings and sophisticated flavours. There are no ostentatious dishes here; rather, you’ll find delicious recipes, locally sourced ingredients, and a diverse menu worth savouring. If you’re in the mood for a snack whilst you wait for your main meal, Crispy whitebait with garlic aioli are crunchy yet morsels of bliss and the Blue Cheese Bocaditos with Truffle Honey will make you crave it at all hours of the night. Similarly, if you’re looking for a steak that can compete with some of the very best steak restaurants in Glasgow, you’ve come to the perfect spot at The Loveable Rogue and its 32 day aged Cote de Boeuf is a must try – for two to share; served with brisket stuffed Portobello mushroom & Bordelaise bone marrow sauce, triple cooked chips.

We were invited to try the restaurant’s latest 5-course tasting menu “Joe Goes Rogue” – with the menu changing every few months – we were in for a real treat. Beginning with onion, crispy ox tongue soup served with the most delicious Parmesan beignet, followed by a Coronation chicken pie, pate en croute – with the date puree being the star of the course. The “lasagne” course was my all-time favourite and I could have easily eaten 10 helpings – a seafood lover’s dream, this plate was packed with crab meat and shellfish to make a unique twist on a classic lasagne. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pork course, which was excellently done with a charcuterie sauce that brought out all of the flavours of the meat. The tail-end of our tasting menu consisted of a blue cheese royale with a Waldorf salad – beautifully presented and ideal for anyone that can’t end a meal without a cheese plate. For the finale of the tasting menu, we were treated to a dark chocolate cremeaux, which wasn’t too sweet or rich and the most perfect way to end the dinner on a high.

The decor in the restaurant is inviting, warm and tastefully done; perfect for a date night, a long catch-up dinner with friends or a family occasion – The Loveable Rogue combines great food and drink in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, served with care and passion – simply marvellous. For those visiting from abroad, the tartan touches, stags and all-around Scottish atmosphere are not to be missed.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more relaxed atmosphere than The Loveable Rogue, whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink or looking to unwind for the evening.

At this restaurant, it’s not about attempting to keep up with current trends; instead, there’s a wealth of TLC and cosy touches to cater to all diners. This gastropub checks all the boxes from friendly service, setting, beautiful surroundings (inside and out) and great grub – we feel you’d be made of stone to walk out unimpressed and without a fuzzy feeling. The Loveable Rogue is a must-visit for locals or tourists visiting Glasgow – this is a restaurant that cannot be missed.
