By now, we are sure that you must have tried or at least heard of Pasta Evangelists, the fresh pasta home delivery service that prides itself in offering “The UK’s most-loved fresh pasta”. It has been a firm lockdown favourite for many trying to bring a slice of Italia into their own homes with easy step by step instructions. Now, the pasta artisans have opened their very first restaurant in the Harrods dining hall, meaning you can leave the cooking to the professionals as you eat your way through some of the most delicious plates of pasta that London has to offer in an elegant and buzzing setting.
The menu, designed by Pasta Evangelists’ Head of Food Michele Rodelli, is as tantalizing as you’d expect, there’s lobster and wild prawn pasta dishes, sumptuous lasagne cupcakes with seasonal British asparagus and Parmesan cream, and maccheroni with freshly shaved black truffle, being just a few of the main menu highlights.
During our visit to Pasta Evangelists, located in Harrod’s Dining hall, we opted for the Caesar Salad and the Foccacia Margherita to begin with, both options were plated beautifully and created with the freshest and most beautiful of ingredients – we enjoyed our starters with a non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz and lapped up the setting which is dimly lit with a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. The Harrods Dining Hall is as classy as you can imagine and the ideal place to dine for those that love to people watch.
For the main star of the show, the freshly made pasta, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Pasta Evangelists, to the point where you’ll consider ordering more than one or two plates to sample (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that – in fact, we urge you to). We went with the Spicy Lobster Spaghetti with semi-dried tomato and sauteed aubergine sauce, this dish is as mouth-watering as it sounds and all about the multitude of deep flavours. We also ordered the Mafalde – a spicy beef meatball dish covered in creamy stracciatella cheese with plump fresh tomatoes. In addition, there’s a Cacio, Pepe and Truffle made up of maccheroni with Rome’s classic combination of black pepper, pecorino romano, and freshly shaved black truffle. For other Italian classics, there’s the slow-cooked Hereford beef ragu pappardelle and for an extra slice of decadence, there is the caviar, aglio and olio bucatini.
The service matched the food in quality and the waiters were chatty, welcoming and filled with pasta knowledge to help us decide on the best options from the menu that we were craving that evening. The concept of Harrods Dining Hall is bar-stool dining (but on an elevated, five-star level), we were able to sit up at a height and watch the incredible Pasta Evangelist chefs work their magic in the kitchen, which also added to the experience, making it feel like we were dining at the Chef’s Table. How about dessert you ask? You definitely won’t be disappointed. Tuck into the ultra-indulgent tiramisù for the ideal finale, the iconic Italian dessert, with coffee and dark chocolate, there’s also the mini dessert plate to share, made up of the most stunning mini puddings including a Vanilla mille-feuille (which is to die for) and a chocolate and hazelnut cake. For those looking to indulge in an alcoholic beverage or two alongside your Italian feast, why not let the experts match your meal with a selection from their vast champagne and wine menu?
Pasta Evangelists is definitely the place to go if you want to spoil yourself after a spot of shopping in Harrods or you’re looking for a London dinner date spot packed with ambience and excellent service. To book a table at Pasta Evangelists at Harrods, 87–135 Brompton Road SW1X 7XL, call 020 3828 7042 or visit their website here.
